We're toasting to a new arrival in East Village - meet Mother Kelly's! The much-anticipated tap room is now open at 28 Victory Parade. So, what you can you expect from E20's latest independent retailer, we asked general manager Sergio Curva...

Tell us about who you are and what you do?

Mother Kelly's opened its doors five years ago in a little railway arch in Bethnal Green. As our first venue, the Bethnal Green Tap Room and Bottle Shop has stocked the finest independently brewed beer since day one and is very much the beating heart of the Mother Kelly's group. We're delighted to be opening our fifth location in East Village!

How did the business get started, who are the team involved?

Before Mother Kelly's, its owner and creator, Nigel Owen, was running a little Victorian boozer in the heart of Kings Cross, where they still serve the best craft beers possible today. During a visit to New York, its creator was inspired by the craft beer scene and vibe of the Big Apple. And Mother Kelly's was born!

What can our residents and visitors expect from you?

Our goal is to cultivate a vibrant community around our East Village Mother Kelly's. We're passionate about what we do and want to share our passion with everyone every time they step through our doors.

Residents and visitors can always expect a relaxed, welcoming vibe. We're committed to every customer having a great experience, whether that's by us recommending a great beer or just having a chat with our friendly staff.

What's your favourite thing on the menu?

Our menu is constantly changing. That being said, we do like IPAs like Bosko from Pressure Drop Brewery, and the many IPAs from Verdant are always welcome. Imperial Stouts are also a favourite - you can always count on these beers to pack a complex taste with lots of flavour.  Some are even barrel aged for months!

What's your favourite thing about Stratford/E20?

Stratford has grown so much over the years. There are always outdoor and sports activities around that help bring the community together - we're keen to get involved in those as much as we can. E20 has always been a beautiful area, and it's great to see the growth of many independent retailers and restaurants helping bring that community vibe.

What does the future hold for Mother Kelly's?

We're always growing, innovating, building and sharing what we do. We love taking part in collaboration beers with great breweries, which in turn helps us build strong relationships across the craft beer sector.

We're importing more beers from Europe - the craft beer scene has seen a boom in growth across Europe and there's so much passion that we can't resist sharing it. As to what the future holds - the sky's the limit, so they say. In the meantime, we'll continue serving the best beers we can get our hands on!
