Dust off your hessian sacks and polish your favourite egg carrying spoon for the third annual 'Park Off' this September!

Our Parks, which provides affordable exercise classes across London, has announced it will once again be hosting ‘Park-Off’ this month. On Sunday 30 September between 11am and 1pm, Victory Park will see over 300 Parkers from different Our Parks boroughs compete head-to-head in a Sports Day to be crowned Park-Off 2018 Champions.

Team East Village is yet to claim the title, having placed a close second at the last two years’ events. So, we’re calling E20 residents to come together, get training and bring the trophy home for the first time! Those taking part will be challenged with traditional sports day activities including an egg & spoon race, wheelbarrow race and tug-of-war.

This year’s Park-Off will be powered by Lucozade as part of their Made to Move campaign in their fight against inactivity.  Since it was founded by former athlete Born Barikor in 2014, Our Parks has gone from 0 to 75,000 Parkers (users) taking part in free or affordable exercise across London.

Born Barikor, founder of Our Parks, says: “Our Parks is an organisation founded on the principle that high-quality exercise should be accessible for all communities, no matter where you live or how much you earn.

“We are very excited to announce this year’s Park-Off will be at East Village – Get Living were the first adopters outside of our founding borough Waltham Forest. At the beginning of the year we brought Antony Joshua back to the Village to deliver a boot camp as part of our Made To Move partnership. We have been in the village since the 2012 Games and have loved watching the community grow, socialise and get fit!”

Charlotte Fletcher, Get Living's general manager at East Village, added: “In bringing communities together, supporting wellbeing and creating opportunities for people to get to know their neighbours, Our Parks is completely aligned with what we do here at Get Living. For those living in East Village, having free, professional-led exercise classes on your doorstep is sure to release extra endorphins!

"We're confident that this is our year and have every faith that our residents and local community will perform on home turf and bring home the trophy for the first time.”
