This summer, the American craze of Mermaid Toast lands on British shores at the East Village Market.

For fans looking to splash their tails in the waters of this new trend, food stylist Miss Trixie will be bringing a stand to the East Village Market on Sunday 25th June and is offering 500 free samples for foodies and trend-junkies to enjoy.

First created by American food stylist, Adeline Waugh, the latest toast trend has literally ridden the wave of popularity with Kim Kardashian-West even posting about her love for the food-meets-art that is Mermaid Toast.

Created using antioxidant packed blue algae powders and liquids mixed with almond milk cream cheese – Mermaid Toast is not only beautiful, but it’s actually good for you!

Food artist and baker extraordinaire Miss Trixie explains: “I have been admiring Mermaid Toast, and its sister version – Unicorn Toast – for the last few months and couldn’t resist giving it a go myself, which meant getting straight in to the kitchen and playing with sea-themed colours and flavours. I’ve had such fun creating something which is as beautiful to eat as it is to look at. I can’t wait to see what people think of them at the East Village Market.”

Miss Trixie will be offering visitors to the East Village Market a choice from four Mermaid inspired recipes, including The Ariel – a pastel bright strawberry and mint concoction – and a moody, dark ocean scene complete with blackberries and Nutella Oreo Yoghurt in honour of Ariel’s nemesis, Ursula. With only 500 slices of Mermaid Toast available, visitors are recommended to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

Located within leafy Victory Park, the East Village Market will take place every Sunday, launching with over 20 and 25 retailers* across an extensive mix of traders.

The vibrant new East Village fixture, which has been curated by Alistair Maddox, who ran the acclaimed Broadway Market for over ten years, will constantly evolve, featuring a changing and growing line-up of London’s most talented traders with a special focus on East London purveyors.

Visitors will be invited to enjoy a plethora of delicious foods - from wings and burgers by Lord of the Wings and alpine street food from Raclette Brothers to Greek Doughnuts by LouLoumades and Dezato Patisserie premium Japanese deserts – as well as beautiful handmade goods and unique clothes including luxury scarves by Kekkai and ethical coffee-based skincare from WABI.

Whilst in East Village, visitors can browse its collective of 25 shops, bars, restaurants and services that are now open.
