Young people at East Village, the former Athletes’ village, will be aiming high thanks to a new partnership with the capital’s only professional basketball team, the London Lions. From the 17th – 27th August, aspiring young basketball players will have the chance to partake in a full programme of coaching, tournaments and a finale game that will see the top two teams play against each other at the Copper Box arena in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

East Village will be supporting the London Lions Sports Foundation as part of their ongoing commitment to the East London Community. Their support will provide its young residents and those from surrounding areas with the opportunity to learn from the best coaches in town, with inspiring and energetic coaching sessions.

After honing their skills in the coaching sessions, they’ll be put to the test in a series of three-on-three tournaments. The top two teams will follow in the footsteps of basketball giants by going head-to-head in front of an exhilarating 7,000 strong crowd at the Copper Box arena during half time of the Lions’ first game of the season against PGE Turow, from Poland. Friends, family and participants of the programme will all be invited down to watch the whole game for free and cheer on the teams in the legendary arena.
