From 2018 residents of East Village will be able to boast of the cultural assets of E20, following the announcement of government plans to create a ‘cultural hub’ at the site of the London 2012 Olympic Games. With plans to boost the regeneration of Stratford even further, the area is set to welcome a plethora of cultural additions which will bring jobs, revenue and visitors to the area.
‘Olympicopolis’ will include a new space for the V&A Museum, an auditorium for Sadler’s Wells and a new campus for University of the Arts London. The extension of the V&A will allow the museum to display many of the objects in its collection that are currently in storage due to space constraints, broadening the art that visitors can enjoy across London. Furthermore, the expansion of University of the Arts London and of UCL’s design, engineering and computer science departments will create a ‘university quarter’ adding to the academic and economic strength of E20.
As well as being able to enjoy the extensive parklands, outdoor space and Olympic legacy venues that surround East Village homes, residents will also be right on the doorstep of this important cultural hub. What’s more, Londoners from all over the capital will now have another reason to revisit the former Olympic site, as the cultural and educational offerings continue to grow.
